Train smashed into Car!

A driver had a miraculous escape after his car and a train collided at a level crossing in sunshine.

Trains are running again after services on the Sunbury line between Sunshine and St Albans were suspended for hours on Thursday afternoon when the train crashed into the car as it was crossing the tracks at Furlong Road in Sunshine North.

Metro Trains announced shortly after 4pm that the line had reopened between Sunshine and Watergardens and delays of 10 minutes were expected as they caught up.

Earlier, an Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said a man in his 20s had made a miraculous escape and had been transported to Western Hospital in Footscray with minor injuries.

The four-door white SUV sustained heavy damage to its rear while the front end was crumpled by the impact of the crash, with the train pushing it into an alongside traffic light and electricity pole.

Heavy delays on roads and train services were expected.

The Furlong Road crossing was ranked among the most dangerous in the state by the Department of Transport in 2008, with three people killed there in a single accident in 2004 and at least one other fatality 10 years earlier.

In October, 2011, 15-year-old Teresa Ho died when she was hit by V/Line train after she apparently failed to heed warning lights and alarms when she opened pedestrian gates at Ginifer railway station, just metres away from the road crossing. Witnesses reported she was listening to music at the time.

Despite passionate pleas from friends and family of victims, the state government at the time ruled out an urgent upgrade of the dangerous crossing.

Melbourne teen Feliks Zemdegs is world Rubik's Cube champion!

Feliks Zemdegs, 17, won the Rubik's final at the Riviera Casino and Hotel with a best time of 7.36 seconds. His average was 8.18 seconds. The champion received $2200 on Sunday for wining.

He beat world "3 x 3" record holder Mats Valk, of the Netherlands, who in March solved a cube in 5.55 seconds. Sebastian Weyer, of Germany came third.

Feliks also won the 4 x 4 speedsolve event with a best time of 30.74 seconds and an average time of 31.76 seconds. He won the 3 x 3 one-handed event with a best time of 12.16 seconds and a 14.19 second average.
In the 5 x 5 event, Feliks was beaten by Kevin Hays of the US.

Feliks broke some Oceanic records at the championships, including the 4 x 4 cube, 3 x 3 one-handed, 3 x 3 fewest moves – with just 31 moves – Megaminx average and single solve, the 6 x 6 cube single-solve, and the 7 x 7 cube average and single-solve.

Before the event, he tweeted: "Very nervous for today already."

He has 2789 followers and his own YouTube channel. He was believed to be in transit at the time of publication.

World Cube Association co-founder Tyson Mao said the competition had 580 competitors and about 1000 spectators.

"Rubik's Cube champions, or really any of the top solvers, are people who not only work hard at what they like to do, but also spend time to figure out how to get better," Mr Mao said.

"Careful self-examination and research is what propels someone like Feliks to the top," he said.

"I have no doubt that Feliks has some innate talent for Rubik's Cube solving, but I feel that 95 per cent of what he has accomplished is simply through hard work, which is accessible to anyone."

The first world championship was held in the birthplace of the Rubik's Cube, Budapest, Hungary, in 1982. The World Cube Association has run the championship since 2004.

Essendon Breakdown

Essendon coach James Hird has an emotion breakdown, 'It's very hard when you keep looking at the hurtful and damaging nature of those comments'. He talks about the Half truth and lies about him and his AFL club.

"There's been some truth put out there, but the constant innuendo, rhetoric, half-truths and probably lies that have been spun about the club, the players, the great people that work here, and the half-truths, rhetoric and lies that have been spun about myself have been very hurtful and very damaging," Hird said.

The Bombers have denied that Hird was the main part of the club’s controversial 2012 supplements program.

‘It’s hard when you can’t respond either. It’s hard when you want to talk about the facts, when you want to explain to people what has happened here,’’ Hird said.

Hird also praised Essendon fans for their support throughout the saga, and urged them to maintain their faith.

Cowan, Starc out. Khawaja, Harris in.

Cowan and Starc are out of the test because of their bad performance last week.

Cowan only scored an embarrassing 0-14 last week at Trent Bridge.

Starc took some wickets, but was always bowling all over the place.

Harris's career has been mainly of injury, but he is a good pace bowler. The 33-year-old has taken 47 wickets at 23.63 from only 12 Tests and is capable of swinging the ball at high pace.Harris has not been in the cricket team since the third and final Test against the West Indies in the Caribbean last year.

Cowan's replacement, Khawaja, had been out of the cricket team since being dumped in late 2011.
He was set to play the third Test in India but was part of the so-called Mohali four who were suspended for not completing their homework. Khawaja, who made his debut in the final Ashes Test of the 2010/11 series, has played six Tests for an average of 29.22 and has not played since the loss to New Zealand in Hobart in December 2011.

Team: Shane Watson, Chris Rogers, Usman Khawaja, Michael Clarke (captain), Steve Smith, Phil Hughes, Brad Haddin, Ashton Agar, Peter Siddle, James Pattinson, Ryan Harris.
